Julie Van Rosendaal

Food writer, cookbook author, radio and TV personality.

“My mom likes to tell the story of when I was three, and asked when I could cook by myself. She said ‘when you can read a recipe by yourself, you can cook by yourself.’ And so I went off to the dining room table with a stack of cookbooks and learned to read.

Since then I’ve always found comfort in recipes - as a teenager, I’d look through peoples’ cookbook collections and recipe boxes when I was babysitting - you learn so much about people from the way they eat. And I still pile cookbooks by my bedside to read like novels. Nothing brings people together like food - it’s the ultimate nourishment, on all levels.”
