Mel Hermanson - Chinook Financial in Hussar, AB
Mel Hermanson was raised on a third generation beef and sheep operation in Avon Valley of Western Australia. Since an early age, she has been very passionate about agriculture especially the beef industry.
Mel completed her Bachelor of Agribusiness specializing in Farm Management in 2007 from Muresk, Curtin University of Western Australia.
During and after completing her university degree Mel worked for a 5000 head capacity feedlot with 5000 acre cropping program, cow calf herd and backgrounding operation located in the Wheatbelt of WA. During her 5 years with Kylagh Cattle Company her roles evolved and diversified from a summer student, cattle manager, feed manager and grazing/background manager.
In 2010, Mel came to Canada through Agriventure exchange where she worked at Yester Years Ranch near Empress, AB. Mel came to Canada to obtain some international experience in the beef industry. During this time she met her husband and they decided to make Alberta their home.
Currently Mel is based out of Hussar, AB. where she works as a Commercial & Agricultural Account Manager for Chinook Financial. In conjunction with her Husband’s Family Farm, Mel runs a small beef herd and cropping program with her husband which they plan to grow. Mel is a part of the Canadian cattlemen young leaders this year.
